Traditionally two rounds of shortbread sandwiched with strawberry jam and covered in pink icing, Napolitains are a beloved Mauritian delicacy.
Our buttery and crisp Napolitains are made with the finest Australian ingredients. We have delicately flavoured our shortbreads with almond meal and use the tartness of quince jelly to balance the sweetness of the traditional pink icing.
Our Napolitains are made to order to ensure they are served in their tastiest form and are individually wrapped to maintain their freshness. We custom-wrap in single, dual or any size package of your choice and can deliver Australia wide. We can organise delivery of freshly-baked Napolitains presented on platters within Sydney.
Origins of Napolitains - Sweet Mauritius
Napolitains come from the tropical paradise island Mauritius located in the Indian Ocean. The island is largely planted with sugarcane and with sugar practically on tap, Mauritians grow up loving their sweets.
Whilst their origin is unknown, it is believed their name and pink icing come from the Italian 'neapolitan' and their recipe reminds of the French 'sablés à la fraise', a shortbread matched with strawberry jam.
About Napolitains Owner, Wendy Small
Our Napolitains baker Wendy Small was born in Mauritius until her family immigrated to Australia in 1969. Napolitains played a big part in Wendy’s family traditions starting with her grandfather Joseph’s love for the sweet delicacy. He was so addicted he ordered a giant Napolitain as his wedding cake.
Growing up in Australia, Wendy's memories of her sweet island origins lived on in her family’s kitchen. Eventually, she turned her hands to bringing life to her childhood recollections. After many years refining her recipe, Wendy launched her 'Naps' (as she affectionately refers to them) to the Sydney market using the best Australian ingredients.
